Modular Projects

In the Summer of 2022, I got the opportunity to work as a Modular VDC intern in BOLDT Company, at the Appleton Wisconsin office. I was interning with BOLDT in the modular team, where I was primarily reporting to the Design integration director, who was helping to bridge the gap between the fabrication and design teams. Having an Architecture background and two semesters in Construction management helped me grasp the process very well.

Software used: Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Powerpoint.

I was responsible for preparing animation for various modular projects as per construction sequencing for the assembly of the modular blocks. This exercise helped me delve deeper into the various modular processes and design decisions, and I learned how layout greatly affects fabrication and execution time.

DESIGN INTEGRATION

This internship experience with the modular team helped me learn a lot about the ILPD teams and lean project delivery. It also taught me that as a budding construction manager, I could add value to the team by participating in big-room meetings and asking questions. These questions sometimes helped the project managers to figure out much more significant issues that might have been missed during the process.

VDC Coordination

I was responsible for generating Navisworks clash reports and conveying them to the ILPD team. This exercise helped to realize how important it is to know the nuances and intricacies of the design processes to execute a modular process successfully. One small wrong design decision might delay the fabrication process and result in refabrication if the Design was not done, keeping in mind the modularity.
